For our boys' birthdays we let them decide if they want a birthday party or if they want to go somewhere to celebrate their big day. This is the first year Andrik wanted a party and he was very specific on the type of party he wanted..."a Superhero party with capes and masks". Andrik's world is superheroes so this did not come as a surprise to me and I had a lot of fun putting it together for him.
Happy Fourth Birthday to our Superhero!
I used the superhero pictures I painted for Andrik's superhero themed bedroom to decorate for the party. They are old Ikea pictures that I didn't want to look at anymore but they were excellent canvases and frames so I repurposed them by painting them into superhero logos and they normally hang above his bed.
Andrik was very specific that he wanted each guest to have a superhero cape and mask so I sewed each child their own cape that they took home as their party favor. (Thank you mom for taking the time to teach me to sew when I was younger!)
Andrik's lamp from his room found a new home at our entry way for the party. Again, an old Ikea lamp with a generic off-white lamp shade that I took a Sharpie marker to and transformed it into the Gotham skyline.
We let the little heroes outside for awhile to bounce some energy out on the jumpy house Santa brought the boys a couple years ago. That Santa sure knows how to give gifts that come in handy!
We played a few rounds of Superhero BINGO. (Randy had the incredibly genius idea to remove all our area rugs for the party. I love that man!)
We pinned Spiderman to the middle of his web, or at least tried to find the middle of his web.
This littlest superhero makes her appearance.
And after all the games and jumping, we needed to recharge with a powerful Superhero drink. It's Gatorade ice cubes and 7-Up with the piece de resistance being the Pop Rocks sprinkled on top just before drinking. It was a HUGE hit!
I had warned the children at the beginning of the party that I had heard on the news that a villain was on the loose in our neighborhood and they needed to be on the lookout for him. I had sewn Randy a black cape and mask but had it hidden from the rest of the capes and just after our Superhero drinks he started peaking in windows and banging on our doors.
I got the kids armed with silly string and sent them outside to attack the villain.
The villain was defeated!
